Finding a Support Coordinator (“SC”) is absolutely essential for the identification and procurement of Autism services post-age 21. Typically SC’s are employed by third-party providers such as Neighbors Inc., Shift Ridgewood, or a host of other agencies, and they receive their training through the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities. Although individuals on the Spectrum and their families supposedly have freedom to switch SC’s “at will”, the experience of ‘switching’ may vary from once case to another, and such freedom may be further impacted by the year in which the individual aged out of Special Education.
